About Girls in Motion
Girls in Motion was created by both Mandy Golman, M.S., adjunct wellness faculty and Coordinator of Psychological Services for women at SMU, Cathy Soutter, PhD., to counteract the growing number of young women affected by eating disorders, obesity and unhealthy body image.
Golman and Soutter are known for their unique educational tactics, from replicating a Barbie doll to life-size showing Barbie’s unrealistic and unhealthy body size to organizing and executing Eating Disorder Awareness Week on the SMU campus. Also, Girls in Motion has been praised for its effective and unprecedented approach to preventing eating disorders, obesity, and “disordered eating,” in publications such as USAToday and The Washington Post.
